DANCE THEATRE OF IRELAND
INVESTigations
Mal Pelo (ESP)
Guest International Workshop - December 11 & 12 2006, Dublin
Dance Theatre of Ireland host the 3rd in their INVESTigations series; a 2-day
Special-Guest Workshop led by Pep Ramis and María Muñoz of Cie
Mal Pelo.
INVESTigations is a New initiative enabling
professional dancers & choreographers to work with eminent International
Artists in a creative research setting, exploring movement and choreographic
structures unique to each choreographer. A process focused on what we make,
how we make it and what we learn in the creative process. An inspirational way
for professional dancers and choreographers to take time out to look at ways
to approach development of vocabulary, choreography and performance.
Mal Pelo is one of Spain's most innovative and theatrical dance companies. Their
poetic view of the world is delivered in finely etched, high-charged, multi-disciplinary
work employing film, theatre, text, poetry, original music/sound and passionate
choreography. Creating work which can be at once funny, dark, and deeply theatrical,
their work pursues a freedom (and rigour) that is simply thrilling. They are
exceptional and charismatic performers, touring internationally and regularly
to Dance Umbrella.
In their workshop, The Silence and the Possibility to Imagine, Dance is an immediate
physical experience, but its poetry is complex, it must be extended through
time in order to be understood at its deepest level, going beyond the first
reading. This workshop will focus on the idea and practice of the Pause-Silence.
Going from silence to movement by means of improvising. Improvisation originated
in a chain of decisions where the accumulated life experiences, the senses and
the possibility to imagine are equal part.
The workshop is a practical approach to the working method that Mal Pelo use in their approach to movement and the creative act. They work from a model that allows each person to reflect on the the relationship of the centre to the periphery; the use of weight - from balance to imbalance; the use of suspension and momentum in making changes of direction, and the movement possibilities related to the natural use of the joints.
The 2-day course will be: Monday & Tuesday, December 11 & 12, 10am - 4pm at Dance Theatre of Ireland's Centre for Dance in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin
Open to professional dancers and choreographers. To apply
